A Song to Remember

A funeral, as my client so eloquently described, is the party nobody wants to plan and they make the saddest person plan it. As someone who has dealt with quite a few sudden deaths in my own family history, I completely understand this sentiment. I’m used to clients planning months, up to a year in advance for their special wedding music. On a contrasting note, there’s no real anticipating when someone’s passing will happen, and what music to have at one’s funeral is not necessarily top of mind for anyone.

That being said, I am very empathetic of the sudden-nature-planning situation for a funeral service. I typically aim to give myself two months to have new songs learned and memorized for a private event; however, if someone has a special request with just a week’s notice for a graveside memorial service, it is my pleasure to make it happen. I had the honor of learning and performing “Angel” by Sarah McLachlan—whose middle name is also “Ann”—on violin and I thought I would share the live audio here.

It’s funny, actually, I had several people come up to me after the service and say, “I want you to play for my funeral!” And it turns out business cards are still relevant, so I will be ordering some updated business cards to have for my next private events in the fall. I will be back out on the road this summer with The Family Crest, but still available to respond to any inquires for later this year—September is already looking exciting with quite a few wedding celebrations in the books! :)

We hired Eli Ann for my mom’s celebration of life funeral and she was incredible! It was a sad event but it was made sweet because of Eli Ann and her talented violin skills. I highly recommend hiring her for ANY event that you want to make even better. Thank you Eli… I know my mom would have loved it, so thank you for being the light on a dark day.
